Massage Etiquette

Welcome!
Your comfort, clarity, and consent are my top priorities. Here's what to expect from start to finish.
Before Your Session
Attire: Wear comfy clothing and remove any restrictive items, including jewelry, before the session.
Hydration: Please drink water before and after your session to support circulation and recovery.
Session Location Options
1. House Call (To Client)
If I’m coming to your home or space:
- I will arrive 5–10 minutes early to set up and settle in.
- Please ensure there is enough room for a massage table and space for me to move around it.
- A spot near an electrical outlet is preferred for table warmers or equipment.
- Clear walkways help me bring equipment in easily and safely.
2. Outcall (To Therapist)
If you’re coming to my location:
- Please allow extra time for street parking so your session can start on time.
- Being punctual helps ensure your session isn’t shortened and doesn’t affect clients booked after you.
- Pets are present in my home. They can be kept in a separate room during the session if needed.
Rescheduling: 24-hour notice appreciated to reschedule.
Your Experience
Environment
Calm music, dim lighting, and a peaceful setup designed for relaxation, if applicable. Heated table padding is available if preferred and when accessible in the session location. Aromatherapy can also be included when appropriate for your session type.
Intake Form
At the start of each session, we’ll go through a brief intake to discuss your goals, areas of focus, and any updates to your health or comfort preferences. This ensures the session is tailored precisely to your needs that day.
Consent to Record (Optional)
At each new session, I’ll ask for your verbal consent if you’re comfortable with short video clips or photos for educational or social media purposes. Recording is always optional, and the session will proceed the same with or without it.
Communication
I’ll check in throughout your session regarding pressure, comfort, and any adjustments you’d like.
Techniques
Your session is fully customized using a blend of:
- Deep tissue
- Swedish
- Myofascial release (often oil-free)
- Guided stretching and mobility work
- Dry manual therapy, lotion, or oil depending on your needs and the type of work performed
Draping
Professional draping is used at all times for your comfort and privacy. Only the area being worked on will be uncovered. For effective bodywork, I’ll need access to the specific regions you’d like addressed (such as back, legs, glutes, or abdomen), and draping will be adjusted accordingly while keeping you fully covered elsewhere.
After Your Session
- Self-care: Continue drinking water, rest, and apply heat for tight muscles or ice for sharper soreness if needed.
Normal Responses
It’s common to experience:
- Feeling relaxed, lighter, or sleepy
- Mild soreness (similar to a workout), especially after deep tissue or myofascial work
- Temporary tenderness in areas that had knots or adhesions
- Increased mobility or looseness
- Emotional release or a “processing” feeling
- Slight fatigue as your body resets
These responses are normal and usually fade within 24–48 hours.
Reducing Post-Session Soreness
If you feel sore:
- Drink extra water
- Use a warm shower, heating pad, or gentle stretching
- Avoid intense workouts for the rest of the day
- Apply ice for pinpoint soreness if needed
- Light movement (walking, gentle mobility) may help circulation
Policies & Safety
Allergies & Sensitivities
Please inform me of any allergies to oils, lotions, essential oils, linens, or pets so I can prepare accordingly.
Confidentiality
All sessions, health information, and conversations are private and treated as confidential.
Illness
If you’re feeling unwell (fever, cold/flu symptoms, stomach illness, or contagious conditions), please reschedule. Your safety and mine come first.
Pets (Outcall to Therapist)
Pets are present in my home; they can be kept in a separate room during your session if needed.
Informed Consent
You are always in control of your session. Let me know if you want more or less pressure, adjustments to draping, or a change in focus areas at any time.
Boundaries
Massage is a professional therapeutic service. Any inappropriate behavior will end the session immediately.
Timing
Arriving late may shorten your session to respect clients booked after you.
Ways You Can Support My Training
Since these sessions (estimated value of $80–$100) are offered free, you can support my growth as a therapist in any way that feels right to you, including:
- Optional donations (Venmo, CashApp, Zelle)
- Honest feedback to help me improve
- Referring friends, family, or coworkers
- Sharing my business cards
- Posting an Instagram shoutout or review
- Allowing professional recorded clips for content (with consent)
Every form of support helps me become a stronger and more experienced therapist. These sessions are not a substitute for licensed medical or therapeutic care.
Follow-Up
Within 24–48 hours after your session, I’ll reach out with a short feedback request. Your responses help me improve my technique, understand your experience, and—if you agree—may be used as a testimonial on my website or social media.
Email or message me within 48 hours if you have questions, concerns, or want guidance on what you’re feeling.
